The Partnership

The WHALE was a unique project brought about through agencies working in partnership - Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, Whitehaven Harbour Commissioners and Eden Arts.

The vision was of a project that could be brought to these places, to bring something of excellence and note worthy, the sort of thing that perhaps usually happens in major cities

Captain Boomer’s WHALE is the perfect fit, certainly noteworthy, a proven project, something seen in major European cities and capitals but never in the north of England.

Whitehaven Harbour is a Trust Port and is run and managed by Whitehaven Harbour Commissioners, who are responsible for the Harbour’s developments and safe operation.

Whitehaven Harbour is treated like an heirloom - it is a valuable asset to conserve and promote to everyone and future generations. The Harbour has been at the heart of its community since 1634.

Whitehaven Harbour Commissioners is a not-for-profit organisation run for the benefit of all stakeholders and interested parties and any annual surpluses are ploughed back into the preservation and improvement of the Harbour.

The Commissioners were proud to play a small part in bringing the stories and the images of the whale to the wonderful and historic town of Whitehaven and thank everyone involved for making it happen. The tales of the whale in our Harbour will live long in the memory and be passed down the generations leaving a lasting legacy

John Baker, the Whitehaven Harbour Commissioner
